When and where to use Kaligo
We know it can be difficult to know how to use new tools so here are some ideas of how and when Kaligo can support how you're already teaching handwriting & spelling.
- Skill Check - Gather your cohort's level of understanding
First of all, it's important to assess if children are ready to begin practising a new skill. You can do this by setting a lesson to assess their understanding of the skill.
In the below example, we have a Kaligo lesson on Ladder Letter Patterns. Having students complete this lesson will give you an idea of whether students are ready to move on to ladder letter formations.

- Interventions - Targeted lessons
With the support of Kaligo, run interventions aimed at practising specific skills. For example, the Common Exception Words (Statutory List):

- Pre-teaching - Introduce students to new concepts before teaching.
You can use Kaligo to introduce key topic words for all subjects. The Kaligo library covers the minimum requirements for the UK curriculum.

- Starter Activities and Plenaries
Use Kaligo lessons to test new skills or refresh old ones. For example, check students can identify different word types.

- Homework**
Set students lessons to complete at home to support with in-class learning. For example, set this Lego STEM Lesson to prepare children for future lessons or activities.

- Handwriting**
Use Kaligo to work on new letters, sounds, joins, spelling and vocabulary. Target specific skill areas like Top ‘e’ letter joins.
